Queen Scorpions duo of Ruggy Joof and Mbassey Darboe helped Determine Girls defend their title following a 16-0 victory over Bassa Girls on Sunday.

Determine Girls who finished the season with 57 points and have won the league consecutively in the last three seasons.

The Gambia national women’s team captain Ruggy reacted after clinching her first league title.

“I am grateful for winning my first title. I thank my family, Armed Forces, and the Gambia fans for the incredible support throughout. I have played without a league title, especially with GAF. I thank God for the strength,” She told TAT Sports.

“My third trophy with Determine Girls (WAFU Women Champions Zone A, Super Cup, and league). The crowned championship will take me to another level, motivating me to push more.”

“This season was very competitive; teams got ready for us when we left for Morroco, and everyone said we could beat Determine Girls. I believe if you beat a champion, you become a champion. We drew a lot of games; otherwise, we would have wrapped the league long ago. Every game was a final for us because we knew they would prepare for us. The competitiveness increased our strength and character and showed us why we are the best. My experience is at another level because the league is competitive. Ambassador FC challenged us, especially in our semi-finals, where we won 3-2 on aggregate. We respected every team and didn’t underrate any team,” Ruggy added.

Mbassey, who joined Determine Girls on loan from the Gambia, says it’s a good start for her professional life.

“Winning the league in your first year is something I have never dreamt of; I can’t express the joy,” Mbassey mentioned.

“Liberia’s national league is different from the Gambia. Here I am more of a free player; it is very competitive.”

Mbassey missed close to seven matches but scored seven league goals and two in the league cup. “I believe I would score more if I had started the league with my team.”

Ruggy Joof & Mbassey will put pen on paper for permanent signing with Determine Girls after the season as both parties are in advanced negotiations.
