The Movement for Democratic Forces of Casamance (MfDC) has denied any link with Ousainou Bojang, the suspected killer of the paramilitary police officers in The Gambia.
Ousainou Bojang has never worked for the Senegalese rebel movement and does not possess a firearm obtained from the MfDC, which he used in the shooting, as claimed by the Gambian authorities.
The Alkamba Times (TAT) got this information in an exclusive telephone interview with an insider of the rebel movement based in southern Senegal.
It followed the assertion by Abubakar Suleiman Jeng, the National Security Adviser to the President, that the suspect has worked for the rebel group in Cassamance.
Jeng was speaking at the press conference organized by the government on Friday, 15th September 2023, and held at the Police Headquarters in Banjul.
He said the suspect, who is in police custody, has confessed to having a firearm from the rebels in Casamance.
However, the MFDC insider, also a respected figure among the rebels in Casamance, disassociated the movement from having any past connection or working relationship with Bojang.
“I have contacted my guys (MfDC rebels), but they said they didn’t know this Ousainou Bojang.
“I was told he never worked for them, and they have no relationship with him.”
The man added: “They (MfDC rebels) said he might have worked with other groups but has never worked with them.
“They also confirmed that they have never given any firearm or pistol to any Gambian named Ousainou, and they don’t own the pistol used by Ousainou Bojang.”
Our contact could not confirm whether Bojang worked for any other rebel groups in southern Senegal.
He emphasized that the MfDC is not presently engaged in fighting and has not issued any weapon or firearm to any Gambian national called Ousainou Bojang.
TAT is trying to contact the other rebel groups in Casamance to find out whether they know Bojang, notably the Jakai Movement led by Jimbo Jatta and Lana Badgie, leader of the splinter group of MfDC.
