Gambian international amputee player Bubacarr Camara helped his side Mersin to secure promotion to the Turkish Super League after finishing the second tier as champions.
Camara, who can play in all three front lines, moved to Turkey in 2022 and has now fulfilled his dream of being a league winner. Last season, Mersin finished in third place and missed promotion, which saw Camara score five goals and provide four assists in his maiden professional career.
“I am happy to help the team win its first trophy and play in the highest league in the country. I have evolved a lot since I moved to Turkey. I can say I have lots of experience now, and I understand the rules more now.” He told Alkamba Times
Camara was leading the golden boot race, but now he is second with 12 goals and five assists. However, his impact and outstanding performance saw him crowned the Best Player of the League.
Camara emphasized that he is thrilled with the individual accolade.
“I have dreamt of winning such awards; it’s a fulfilment.”
Camara, who scored double figures this season, including a hattrick as well as five goals in a single match, will be hoping to join the Gambia national amputee team as they gear for the AAFCON 2024 to be hosted in Egypt between April 19 to 28. The Gambia national team went to camp on Monday, March 25th.
“With my experience, I am hoping I will be able to join the team very soon. I am hoping that we will reach very far.” Camara noted.
The Gambia Amputee team is drawn against Ghana, Algeria, and Ghana in Group C.
Camara has five caps, with the Gambia Amputee national team having led the front line in 2021 in Tanzania.
