A man took his own life after his wife filed for divorce

A man aged 45 from Leba Nyagen in the Upper Saloum District of Southen Central River Region sadly committed suicide early Thursday morning, shortly after his wife divorced him and left their marital home.

Police were called to a scene of alleged suicide in the early hrs of Thursday, and upon arrival at the scene, the victim, 45 years old Momodou Leigh, resident of Leba Nyaiyeh, was found hanging dead on a tree. Police and medical officers evacuated the body to the hospital.

A senior regional police officer confirmed the development to The Alkamba Times but refrained from providing additional details, citing lack of authorization to speak to the media.

The late Mr. Leigh, as revealed by family sources to Alkamba Times, had been divorced by his wife barely last week. He had confided in his family that he could not live without the woman he loved and was determined to end his life.
