American teenage sensation Coco Gauff along with her doubles partner and close friend Catherine McNally continued their total dominance at the ongoing U.S. Open tennis championships.
The dynamic duo and promising teenagers on the WTA tour earned their first doubles quarterfinals at the U.S. Open with a straight set 6-4, 6-4 victory over No.8 Seed pairing Andreja Klepač & Darija Jurak on Granstand, Flushing Meadows.
They will set up an intriguing round of eight clash against No.1 Seed; Hsieh Su-Wei & Elise Mertens at the Louis Armstrong Stadium on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.
The teenage duo now have their sights firmly set on winning their first major title since reaching the Grand Slam senior debut in 2019, advancing to the Round of 16 in their first ever doubles appearance at Wimbledon.
The teenagers also advanced to the Australian Open quarterfinals twice while making the third round at the French and US Open in their first attempts two years ago.
Coco 17, rose to prominence with a famous win over Venus Williams in the opening round at Wimbledon in 2019 as a 15-year-old teenage sensation. In addition to her success in the singles, Coco has won three WTA doubles titles along with Caty McNally now 19, with the most recent wins coming on the heels of their exploits in Parma.
Coco and Caty aim to replicate their success at the junior Grand Slam having won the girls’ junior Grand Slam doubles title at the 2018 US Open. Their notable performances in recent games is evidence of the fact that they will leave no stone unturned to attain ultimate success.
With a career-high ranking of World No. 21 in the doubles, Coco’s road to the World No. 1 is surely the stuff that dreams are made of. The duo are undoubtedly a solid contender to win the U.S. Open judging by dint of their incredible display of talent throughout this week.
