Terence Wallen, a UK-based artist, reggae ambassador, and author, is visiting The Gambia for the first time, marking a monumental step in his music career.

With years of experience in the music industry, Wallen is known for his unique style, which blends reggae with elements of rap and hip-hop.

Born to Jamaican parents, Wallen’s deep love for reggae music stems from his roots. He describes reggae as more than just a genre—it is a culture and a movement he passionately celebrates.

Speaking to the press during his visit, Wallen highlighted his admiration for the reggae legends who inspired him, including the late Gregory Isaacs.

“So this is paying tribute to Gregory Isaac. When I return to the UK, I will have some really big shows at the O2 Academy—massive. So this is very much my start, to get my feet here, get people to know me, also, one to celebrate reggae music, and to be able to leave some sort of footprint, and not just in music, but with what reggae represents, what roots represent,” Wallen said.

A Special Tribute to Reggae

Wallen’s admiration for Gregory Isaacs transcends music; their friendship grew from Isaacs’ humility and calm demeanor.

Wallen’s journey as a reggae artist began in his childhood when he embraced the genre’s rhythm and message. Today, he channels this passion into his performances and projects, emphasizing the importance of preserving the legacy of reggae pioneers.

Charity Through Music

In addition to his music, Wallen is keenly dedicated to charitable work. He uses his platform to engage with young people and support musicians, leveraging reggae as a tool for change. His philanthropic efforts embrace social advocacy, addressing health challenges, particularly among African and Caribbean communities.

Wallen is the founder of a charitable organization that supports individuals living with HIV and AIDS. Speaking about his work, he shared:

“So, we do treatment support, family support, and everything else. I took that same project to other parts of Africa, and that’s why I went to Malawi to work with the organization Youth Against AIDS. I’ve done the same project in Namibia with the BBC, helping people to access early detection and treatment.”

Engaging Through Social Media and Sports

Wallen also uses social media and sports to connect with audiences and inspire positive change. The multi-talented artist and writer uses these platforms to amplify his advocacy, uniting communities in the fight against stigma and inequality.

As Wallen’s journey in The Gambia unfolds, he aims to leave a legacy that resonates beyond music, engaging with the country in a run of scheduled shows and performances set to revive and re-enact the legendary works of Gregory Isaac.

Wallen hopes to inspire a new generation and strengthen the connection between Africa and the global reggae community by blending his passion for reggae with his commitment to social impact.
