Over a decade, Gambian football players have always shown dominance in the Senegalese Ligue 1 by making their mark. They have clinched titles, MVP awards, golden boots, and Fans Player of the Year accolades.

The Manjai-born Momodou Jallow followed the long-standing tradition, despite the fewer number of Gambian players participating in Ligue 1. The Hawks product played a staggering 30 games, recorded one goal and had 11 assists to his name as a full-back for Linguere. He was named thrice in the team of the week.

“It has been a hallmark of Gambians to go to Senegal and leave a blueprint mark in the league. There’s been talk about how impactful Gambians always are in Senegal. We are praying for it to continue. I am happy that it’s continuing, and thanks to those that built that foundation. We are just following in the footsteps of our predecessors.” Jallow emphasized

The 2024/2025 season numbers and impact have been planned. “Tallis”, as fondly called, has played in Senegal before rising to the top. He played for Darou Salam and reached the semifinals, and while in Dakar, he played for Lakale for one year in the third division, scoring five goals and eight assists. Making current champions Jaraaf and Teungueth FC scramble for his signature.

“Despite playing in the 3rd division, I was under studying the first division, and I learned that the games were physical and tense. I promised myself that I will only play 3rd division for one season,” he recalled.

“After seeing what the first division requires, I started to train more and more; improvement was a must, and I started training mentally. I trained till my teammates were amazed, but I told them I am preparing for something.”

In two seasons with Red Hawks, Momodou Jallow only missed two matches, and it put so much pride in the Kanifing Layout nawettan winner with five goals, having been among the players with the highest minutes in the league.

“I feel emotional; I am happy. Playing 30 games in a row in a top league is something that some players haven’t achieved despite their age and experience.”

Jallow further described the Senegalese league as very vibrant.
“Everyone comes out to cheer your team; every player is ready to make the fans satisfied,” Jallow added.
