The Judiciary of The Gambia has announced an indefinite suspension of all court sittings at the Kanifing Children’s Court and the Kanifing Industrial Tribunal, according to a notice issued by the Office of the Chief Justice. The decision, effective immediately, was communicated in a letter signed by Ebrima Jallow, Esq., on behalf of the Judicial Secretary.

The notice, addressed to the Solicitor General, the Legal Secretary, and the President of the Gambia Bar Association, did not specify the reasons for the suspension but expressed regret for any inconvenience caused. The Judiciary assured stakeholders that efforts are underway to resolve the situation and resume court proceedings as soon as possible.

For urgent matters requiring immediate attention, the public is advised to contact the Office of the Judicial Secretary at 771-7097 for guidance. The Judiciary emphasized its commitment to addressing the issue promptly and thanked the public for their patience and cooperation during this period.

The suspension affects two key judicial institutions in Kanifing, which handle cases involving children and labor disputes. Legal practitioners and litigants are now left awaiting further updates on when normal operations will resume. The lack of a stated reason for the suspension has sparked curiosity among stakeholders, with some speculating about potential logistical or administrative challenges.

The Judiciary’s notice was also circulated to the Hon. Chief Justice and posted on the official notice board, ensuring wide dissemination. As the situation develops, the public and legal community are urged to stay informed through official channels for updates on the resumption of court activities.

The Gambia Judiciary says it remains committed to upholding justice and ensuring access to legal recourse, even as it navigates this temporary disruption.
