After more than two decades of dedicated service, Mr. Kemo Ceesay has officially stepped down as Finance Director of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) on December 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of financial transparency and institutional growth.
In a heartfelt farewell message, Ceesay reflected on his remarkable journey that began in the era of the late Alh. O.B. Conateh, when he served on the organising committee representing Steve Biko Football Club. He was later appointed as accountant by the late A.O.G. Sosseh – becoming only the third in the federation’s history – after leaving a position at international NGO Action Aid The Gambia to establish a robust accounting system.
Recalling the humble beginnings, Ceesay noted that administrative staff numbered just five under Jammeh E.K. Bojang, operating from rented offices at Independence Stadium at a time when few wanted to work for the then Gambia Football Association (GFA).
He served through multiple leadership transitions, including normalisation periods under the late Alh. Omar Sey and the late O.B. Conateh, the presidency of Seedy Kinteh – who constructed the GFF Football House – and subsequent administrations led by Mustapha Kebbeh, Hon. Alagie Sillah, and current President Lamin Kaba Bajo.
Ceesay praised Bajo and his executive for transforming the GFF into a “more trustworthy and reliable institution,” earning high marks from FIFA and CAF for financial accountability and transparency that surpass many African member associations. He highlighted positive feedback from the FIFA annual audit, improved national team performances, and infrastructure developments as lasting achievements.
Expressing profound gratitude, Ceesay thanked successive presidents, executive members, colleagues, and staff, singling out Ousman “Cho” Drammeh as “a brother” and Ismaila Njie as his “technical brain” in the Finance Department. He also acknowledged clubs, regional associations, allied bodies, the people of Bakau, and Steve Biko FC for shaping his career as both coach and administrator.
On a personal note, he expressed his gratitude to his two wives, friends, and family for their unwavering support.
Though retiring from active duty, Ceesay affirmed he remains “a proud supporter and servant of Gambian football” and wished the federation continued success in developing the game at all levels.
His departure marks the end of an era for one of the GFF’s longest-serving officials, whose contributions have helped lay strong foundations for the future of football in The Gambia.
