Gambian players enjoyed a productive weekend across several leagues, with Pa Modou Sohna, Bubacarr Tambedou, Abubakar Barry and Solomon Kanform all finding the back of the net, while others delivered strong performances for their respective clubs.

England

Portsmouth FC conceded a stoppage-time equaliser to settle for a draw against Blackburn Rovers in their battle for Championship survival. Hayden Carter headed home late to ensure the spoils were shared at Ewood Park.

Midfielder Ebou Adams came close to scoring in the 12th minute when his header went inches wide. Adams was also crucial defensively, producing a superb block to prevent Ohashi from getting a shot away inside the box.

The Gambian international continued to threaten from distance and struck the crossbar with a powerful long-range effort after collecting a pass from Pack and beating his marker.

Austria

Abubakar Barry was among the goals as he produced an impressive display in attack.

Barry registered four attempts on goal during the match. His first opportunity came in the 31st minute with a right-footed strike from outside the box that went over the bar. He kept searching for the opener and had another effort blocked before finally breaking the deadlock in the 56th minute from close range.

He nearly doubled his tally in the 68th minute but missed the target before being substituted in the 85th minute. The goal marked his fourth of the season and third in the last five matches.

Sweden

Mjällby AIF advanced to the quarterfinals of the Swedish Cup thanks to a brace from Jeppe Kjær against IFK Värnamo.

Gambian midfielder Abdoulie Manneh, played 45 minutes as Mjällby secured qualification for the last eight.

Ukraine

Bubacarr Faal made his third appearance for FC Karpaty Lviv in their 1-1 draw against FC Kudrivka.

Faal played a key role in the opening goal. The Gambian forward held up the ball well, created space and delivered a clever chipped pass to Kostenko, who finished confidently in the fifth minute.

Faal remained lively throughout the first half, creating several chances. He missed a headed opportunity and later saw another effort denied by the goalkeeper. In the second half he managed one additional shot that went wide.

Estonia

Both Pa Modou Sohna and Bubacarr Tambedou scored on the opening weekend of the Meistriliiga season.

Sohna, now a regular for Paide Linnameeskond, broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with a low drive. The former BST Galaxy forward also had another goal ruled out for offside.

Meanwhile, 2025/26 runners-up FCI Levadia Tallinn defeated FC Kuressaare 2-0, with Tambedou scoring his 22nd league goal in 59 appearances. The striker was perfectly positioned to divert Ainsalu’s cross and later completed 75 minutes of action.

Latvia

Three Gambian players made their Latvian Virsliga debuts on matchday one.

RFS Riga secured a 2-1 win over Ogre, with midfielder Modou Saidy starting the match and playing 89 minutes, earning a 7.2 match rating.

At FK Auda, Wally Fofana came on in the 79th minute to make his debut in a 2-1 victory over SK Super Nova.

Meanwhile, Muhammed Badamosi was introduced in the 66th minute for Riga FC in their 2-1 defeat in the season opener.
