The Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) has arrested over 20 individuals in a series of operations conducted between March 8 and March 15, 2026, seizing significant quantities of suspected cannabis products, hashish, ecstasy pills, and other prohibited substances. The arrests, detailed in a press statement signed by Public Relations Officer Dawda Sanyang, highlight the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking and abuse nationwide.

The most substantial seizure occurred at the Jenoi checkpoint on March 11, where 27-year-old Marcel Mendy, a resident of Ziganchor in Senegal, was apprehended around 09:20 GMT. Officers discovered 40 blocks of suspected cannabis resin (hashish) concealed in five red plastic bags and three transparent ones.
Other notable arrests included on March 10, 26-year-olds Salieu Sey and Kebba Susso, both from Farato, who were stopped in a blue and orange Mercedes-Benz (registration WCR 6405D) with 31 bundles and 66 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa hidden in white and brown paper, multicolored rice bags.
On March 13, 27-year-old Suwaibou Colley of Manduar was found with 14 bundles, one parcel of suspected cannabis sativa, and one stone of hashish in brown paper, black plastic, and rice bags.
Smaller quantities were recovered from several others, including 20-year-old Yankuba Jarju of Kusamai (four bundles in a backpack on March 11), 28-year-old Lamin Jarju of Somita (three bundles on March 14), and 19-year-old Sulayman Sowe of Brikama (two bundles on March 14).
Ecstasy pills featured prominently in separate cases: 25-year-old Omar Mboge of Sukuta was arrested on March 11 with 868 pills in a transparent medical bag, while 24-year-old Ebrima Ceesay of Sukuta faced charges on March 13 at Kanifing Depot for 84 pills hidden in shoes.
Additional suspects included a 17-year-old child offender from Nema Kunku with 21 wraps of suspected kush (March 11), and 28-year-old Jalla Jarju of Latri Kunda German with 12 small bags of suspected skunk (cannabis ruderalis) on the same day.
Other arrests involved smaller amounts of cannabis sativa, skunk, and hashish from residents across areas like Busumbala, Bansang, New Yundum, and Makumbaya, with concealments ranging from pockets to multicolored bags and foil papers.
All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. In the release, DLEAG management reaffirmed its “unwavering commitment” to tackling the drug problem. It urged continued public support, collaboration, and participation in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
The operations underscore DLEAG’s intensified nationwide enforcement amid rising concerns over drug-related crimes in the region.
