The organizers of the TFN Heroes Awards are proud to announce exciting updates for the 2026 edition, reflecting the continued growth and national impact of the awards platform.

Following strong responses in previous editions and increased public engagement, the organizers have updated the award categories to capture better excellence, innovation, and impact across key sectors in The Gambia. These changes are part of a broader effort to ensure the awards remain relevant, inclusive, and representative of the evolving landscape of achievement in the country.

After five years of honoring excellence through the original categories, the organizers are expanding the awards to recognise even more deserving individuals and groups. This evolution ensures that the platform continues to showcase a wider range of achievements and contributions to society.

This year’s categories include:

Person of the Year Award— Presented to the individual whose leadership or achievement has had the most profound and measurable national impact over the past year.

This is the awards’ highest distinction, reserved for figures whose work has shifted public life, policy or national morale; past recipients have included senior statespeople and national icons, with honours sometimes accepted on their behalf by cabinet representatives.

Enterprise of the Year Award — Honouring an established business that has demonstrated exceptional performance, strong growth, and economic development.

Startup of the Year Award — It celebrates a rising startup that has shown innovation, scalability, and potential for future success.

Financial Innovation Award — Awarded to an organization/institution driving transformative solutions in the financial sector.

Leadership & Impact in STEM Award: Recognizes an individual who demonstrates outstanding leadership in advancing science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, with clear, measurable impact on innovation, community development, or industry progress.

Public Service Excellence Award — Honouring a public servant or institution that has demonstrated outstanding dedication and service to the community.

Healthcare Excellence Award — Awarded to individuals delivering exceptional contributions to healthcare and public well-being.

Education Excellence Award — Recognizing those who have made significant strides in advancing education and empowering learners.

Agriculture Excellence Award — Celebrating innovation and impact in agriculture that supports sustainability and food security.

Sustainability & Green Award — Honouring efforts that promote environmental protection, sustainability, and a greener future.

Security Leadership Award — Recognizing exemplary leadership and commitment to safety, security, and public protection.

The TFN Heroes Awards 2026 will also present three special international honours to distinguished personalities outside The Gambia, including one to a serving president. These awards highlight the platform’s growing regional and global profile, recognising leaders and changemakers whose influence extends beyond their own countries.

The TFN Heroes Awards 2026 is proudly sponsored by Africell, whose continued support has played a vital role in elevating the platform and celebrating individuals and institutions making a difference across the country.

The highly anticipated awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 30 May 2026; details on the venue will be announced in due course.

Launched in 2020 by The Fatu Network, the TFN Heroes Awards has become one of The Gambia’s leading platforms for recognising civic, cultural, and economic achievement. The awards combine public nominations and voting with expert adjudication and have honoured a mix of public figures, civil society leaders, business innovators, and cultural icons since inception.

Past winners have included national figures such as Attorney General Abubacarr Tambadou and athlete Gina Bass, and the roll of honourees has featured senior statespeople and national icons whose awards were sometimes received by official representatives.

As the countdown begins, the public is encouraged to stay engaged for updates on nominations, voting, and event activities through official TFN Heroes Awards platforms.
