Better Tomorrow Football Academy etched their name into the history books on Saturday, May 16, 2026, as they defeated a resilient R77 Football Academy in a nail-biting penalty shootout to win the 2025 Grassroot U10 Tournament at the Abuko Market Football Field.
The highly anticipated final ended in a goalless stalemate after regulation time, with both teams showcasing exceptional discipline, tactical awareness, and raw talent rarely seen at the Under-10 level. In the end, composure from the spot proved decisive as Better Tomorrow emerged victorious, capping off an entertaining and competitive tournament that highlighted the bright future of Gambian grassroots football.
The occasion was elevated by the presence of high-profile dignitaries who turned out in strong support of the young stars. Among them was Madam Fatou Baldeh MBE, CEO of tournament partner Women in Liberation and Leadership, alongside George Nyuki, Secretary General of the Kanifing Municipal Regional Football Association (KMRFA).

Representatives from BST Galaxy and Miami FC also graced the event, adding significant prestige and underscoring the growing interest in youth development from both local and international stakeholders.
Individual brilliance shone through despite the team triumph. R77 Football Academy’s wonder-kid, Muhammed Zaid Ceesay, stole the spotlight, claiming a double award as both Best Player of the Tournament and Top Scorer. His clinical finishing and creative play throughout the competition marked him as one to watch. His teammate, goalkeeper Musa Sowe, earned the Golden Glove award for a string of outstanding saves that kept R77 in contention until the final whistle.
For the winners, playmaker Kanu Manneh – affectionately known as “Bruno Fernandes” for his vision and passing range – was named Best Young Player, a fitting reward for his instrumental role in Better Tomorrow’s campaign.

The final attracted a massive crowd of passionate football fans, parents, and community members who packed the Abuko Market Football Field, creating an electric atmosphere that inspired the young players.
