The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) announced the death of Seasoned Teacher and Journalist Buba SM Ceesay on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022. A terrible loss for journalism, teaching, and the education sector, Mr. Ceesay’s demise leaves a huge vacuum that will be especially felt at the National Broadcaster GRTS, where his efforts helped to shape and sustain daily News programs and editorial work. He will also be dearly missed in the teaching sector where his students remember a firm, understanding, and friendly teacher who went on to inspire them in other areas. SM as he was fondly called by colleagues and friends was the name that ringed through the GRTS newsroom, where he can find daily working on the day’s first Bulletin.
“It’s a shocking loss, SM is a great journalist and editor and one of the most dependable staff in the newsroom where he got along with everyone. He will be dearly missed, Allah grant him Eternal rest and Peace In Jannah,’ says Ebrima Jatta, GRTS Managing Editor, who worked with the late journalist.
His commitment to education never wavered and despite his work schedule, the journalist was also involved in a new study program at the UTG. Buba SM Ceesay is survived by a wife and child.
