In a landmark act of philanthropy, The Cornerstone Group, in collaboration with U.S.-based humanitarian organization MAP International, has donated over $1 million worth of medical supplies to the country’s main referral hospital, the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul, marking the largest single donation in the hospital’s history. The transformative contribution, handed over during a ceremony on the hospital grounds, will significantly enhance healthcare delivery in the region.

The donation includes critical supplies such as pain relievers, antibiotics, surgical kits, IV fluids, personal protective equipment (PPE), diagnostic tools, and other essential medical commodities. Attended by government dignitaries, healthcare professionals, and representatives from The Cornerstone Group, the event underscored the power of strategic partnerships in addressing healthcare disparities.

Mr. Alagie Sanyang, Chairman, CEO, and Founder of The Cornerstone Group, emphasized the initiative’s alignment with the organization’s mission. “This donation reflects our commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility,” Sanyang said. “By strengthening healthcare systems, we are investing in the health and future of communities across Africa. Together with MAP International, we are delivering hope, health, and healing.”

EFST Hospital’s management described the donation as a game-changer. “We have never received a donation of this magnitude,” the Hospital Director stated. “This support will directly improve patient outcomes and ease the burden on our healthcare workers.” With patient loads rising and resources stretched thin, the infusion of high-quality supplies equips the hospital to better serve its community, enhancing care and expanding capacity.

Ms. Oley Faal, Executive Director of The Cornerstone Group Foundation, highlighted the organization’s ongoing commitment to EFST Hospital and the broader community. Beyond this donation, The Cornerstone Group has funded transformative projects, including the renovation of the hospital’s Children’s Surgical Unit, the solarization of the main operating theater, and the installation of over 20 solar-powered boreholes across the country. These initiatives reflect the group’s dedication to corporate social responsibility.
