Emerging from the streets of Tallinding Medina, Kawsu Sanyang is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young prospects at Real de Banjul. A modern winger with flair, pace, and confidence, Kawsu is driven by a clear mission to revive the legacy of his idol, Famara Kallon, and take it even further.

Born and raised in Medina, a community known for producing football talent, Kawsu grew up playing street football, where his raw ability first caught attention. “I grew up looking up to Famara Kallon as a role model,” he said. “Unfortunately, he didn’t go as far as we expected. I want to take that name to the highest level.”

Football runs deep in his family. His elder brother, Jerreh Sanyang, was regarded as one of the finest left-backs of his generation, further shaping Kawsu’s early development and passion for the game.

From Nawettan Stardom to Real de Banjul

Kawsu began refining his skills at Raptim Football Academy before moving to Tallinding United academy under the guidance of Alagie Nyassi. It was there that he truly began to shine, particularly in the famous Nawettan—Gambia’s grassroots football competition known for producing top talents.

In that highly competitive environment, Kawsu stood out, winning MVP awards and dazzling fans with his performances. His displays attracted interest from several clubs, including BST Galaxy and Fortune FC, but it was Real de Banjul who secured his signature.

“It’s every kid’s dream to play for Real de Banjul,” Kawsu said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity, and I will keep pushing to reach the level I want.”

A Proven Winner at Every Level

Even at a young age, Kawsu has already built an impressive record of success.

At Medina FC, he won both the Knockout Trophy and the Super Cup, scoring the winning goal in the final against T-Town and earning Man of the Match honors.

He also lifted the KM Third Division title with Football Heroes and enjoyed success at school level, winning the Principal Cup with Gambia Senior Secondary School where he scored five goals in the qualifiers and the decisive goal in the final.

Playing Style and Strengths

Kawsu is a modern left winger who is equally comfortable operating on the right flank or in a more central attacking role.

Key Attributes:

  • Explosive pace and acceleration
  • Excellent 1v1 dribbling ability
  • Creativity and chance creation
  • Eye for goal
  • Set-piece threat

His direct style and technical confidence make him a constant threat in attacking situations. Beyond open play, he is also developing a reputation as a set-piece specialist—drawing comparisons with Amara Camara after scoring both a direct free-kick and a goal from a corner.

Breaking Into the First Team

Since joining Real de Banjul, Kawsu has been gradually integrated into the senior setup.

He has since been included in every matchday squad and made substitute appearances against Hart FC, Dutch Lions, and Hawks gaining valuable experience at the top level.

With Modou Lamin Darboe departing to pursue a professional career abroad, Kawsu is already being viewed as a potential successor in the club’s attacking setup.

The Next Chapter

Real de Banjul has built a reputation for producing elite talent, particularly in attack, and Kawsu appears to be the next name in that tradition.

While it remains uncertain whether he will go out on loan next season, his immediate focus is on contributing to the team’s push for a fourth consecutive league title.

For Kawsu Sanyang, the journey is only just beginning but with talent, determination, and a clear vision, he is well on his way to writing his own story while honoring the legacy that inspired him.

Family Belief Driving Kawsu’s Rise

Behind Kawsu Sanyang’s rapid development is a strong support system, led by his elder brother, Jerreh Sanyang, who believes the young winger has all the tools to succeed.

“Kawsu has been working very hard since childhood. From a young age, he chose football as his career, and all our hopes are on him,” Jerreh said.

“He has everything skill, energy, and passion. He was the star player in his team (Medina FC), and we relied on him a lot. The whole community comes out in large numbers to watch him because of the belief we have in him.”

Jerreh highlighted Kawsu’s natural attacking qualities as key to his rise.

“His ability, shooting, dribbling, and scoring make him special. That’s why we chose Real de Banjul. The coach has given us assurance that he will help Kawsu develop because of his talent.”

With strong backing from both family and community, expectations continue to grow around the young prospect.

“We are excited about what the future holds for him,” Jerreh added.
