Following his side’s narrow win over Kanifing estate in their debut game in the second division, BST Galaxy FC coach Alagie Amat Cham has expressed delight over the victory.
The new club coach begins the campaign with one nil win thanks to substitute Lamin Sarr’s goal in the second half.
“I am very happy for the win; it was a tough game for us because we lost a man in the 7 minutes, but we could defend it in the first half. Unluckily for them, they also lost a man in the second half, and when we were equal, we could take advantage. Finally, they allowed us to score, so I am thrilled we won the game,” Cham told Alkamba Times Sports.
Dealing with Pressure
The football club BST Galaxy was bought by Gambian international Baboucarr Steve Trawally from Dibba Oil FC at the end of last season.
It has generated a lot of hype from a cross-section of fans at home and abroad, including social media and mainstream media. The opening game attracted many spectators at the late Ousman Saho Football at Old Yundum last Thursday, 5th January 2023.
Coach Cham was delighted that his side could cope with pressure.
“Naturally, football goes with pressure; I told my players to focus because there was a lot of hype about this game, and everybody is coming to see you. So people will come to see what type of team we have, and today we will gain the people’s respect.”
The Coach added: ” Fortunately for us were able to perform, and anybody who came here saw our performance, and we tried to play football the way we wanted.
But even when we went a man down, we didn’t have to change. We play. We should play only a short ball. We should keep the ball on the ground and play as fast as possible to create a chance.”
Performance
Many times, fans and spectators are more passionate about results, not the actual performance, but for coach Cham, the version plays key elements for him and his backroom staff.
“For me, it was the performance that I was looking at; yes, even if we had won the game differently, I would not like it. But anybody who came here knows that the team performs very well, they play to expectation after the team went down to ten men, and we didn’t change our play, and I am happy we did it that way.”
Ambition
Cham concluded by saying the club’s objective this season is to be competitive, and he believes that results will come their way when they are competitive.
” the club’s primary objective is to ensure they prepare players ready to compete internationally,” Coach said.
