PSV Wellingara Football Club come from a goal down to triumph 3-1 over Greater Tomorrow Academy to celebrate their first win of the 2022/2023 Gambia Football Federation Division 1 League thanks to goals from Yankuba Ceesay, Lamin Sawaneh, and Lamin Kinteh.
The Brikama base academy first took the lead in the 23 minutes with a blistering goal from their young midfield maestro, Alieu Manneh. Yankuba Ceesay restored parity 34 minutes before Lamin Sawaneh and Lamin Kinteh scored in the 59th and 83rd, respectively.
The PSV Wellingara coach, Kebba Sawaneh, said his side’s victory was looming despite his team collecting only a point in their first six matches. The PSV gaffer said their maiden win would be a confidence booster for his lads.
“It’s a valuable win for us as we have been working hard during the past weeks to register our first victory, and thank God it came today. It will boost the players’ confidence and the zeal to fight much harder to get more victories along the way”. Coach Sawaneh said.
Kebba Sawneh returns gratitude and appreciation to the Wellingara faithful for being with the club when victory was hard to come.
“I’m grateful to my coaching staff, players, board members, fans, and everyone who has trusted my group since the start of the league and me because despite the poor run, these people have always been giving me the necessary encouragement and motivation and that shows that they were loyal which means a lot to the team and me,” He said.
Elsewhere, at the Box Ba mini stadium, Marimoo Pakfood’s solid defender, Dawda Darboe, scored a last-gasp volley to keep Marimoo Pakfood FC’s undefeated run in their 1-1 scintillating draw with Team Rhino Football Club.
