CAF Champions League history for Gambian duo as Minteh also scores in Eridivisie

Gambian foreign-based players weekend roundup, week 10, saw an incredible feat as both Lamin Jallow and Pa Omar Jobe scored in the final group stages of the CAF Champions League. Lamin Jarjou, Yirajang, and Gomez were all handed their debuts, while Yankuba Minteh, Baboucarr Faal, and Momodou Bojang all found the back of the net.
England
Ebou Adamas assisted striker Dwight Gayle’s first Rams goal just before halftime as Derby County returned to winning ways following a 3-0 home victory over Port Vale. Adams, who lasted 80 minutes, delivered a fine cross into the penalty area from the right, which resulted in Gaye planting a firm header low into the bottom corner.
Wrexham AFC returned to the automatic promotion spot following their 4-0 victory at the SToK Cae Ras, thanks to Paul Mullin’s second hat-trick of the season.
Jacob Mendy was among the three changes that were made in the starting XI for The Accringtons visit to North Wales.
Italy
Sampdoria beat Feralpisalo away from home by 3-1. Manuell’s brace in the first half gave Andrea Pirlo’s team the edge. Darboe played as a central midfielder and lasted 55 minutes.
Virtus Verona were unbeaten in three matches prior to the Pro Sesto visit (W1 D2).
The visitors scored twice in the second half of a game that saw Sibi making three saves and coming close to finding the equaliser in the 92nd minute when his header was parried away by the visiting goalkeeper.
France
Nfansu Njie made his third Ligue 2 appearance for FC Girondins de Bordeaux in their 2-2 draw against Rodez AF. The visitor’s fell behind twice, but Ukrainian DANYLO found the equaliser in the added time.
Yankuba Jarju and SO Cholet ended their 10 matches winless streak following their 2-1 victory over fifth-place Dijon. Jarju has seven goals for struggling Cholet.
Netherlands
Yankuba Minteh won a ball after PSV tried playing from the back. Minteh, the match winner against Almere City, dribbled past the goalkeeper to slot it in for the equaliser for Feyernoord. The game ended 2-2, with Minteh playing 75 minutes.
Turkey
MKE Ankaragücü is in search of their first win in five games, while Ali Sowe hasn’t found the back of the net in the last eight matches following their 1-1 draw against Istanbulspor.
Omar Colley saw red in Besiktas 1-0 home defeat against Galatasaray. Colley slipped off, and his extension was enough by VAR for his sending off in the 90th minute.
Switzerland
Young Boys lead at the top of the Swiss League is cut to one point following three defeats on the row. They lost to Zuerich 1-0 on Sunday. Ebrima Colley and Saidy Janko were named in the starting XI. Colley was close to having an assist, while Janko’s shot on target in the 27th minute was pushed away by the goalkeeper.
Croatia
Baboucarr Faal scored his sixth league goal in a HNK ORIJENT 1-0 win over NK SESVETE on Sunday.
Denmark
Hamza Barry and Vejle are unbeaten in their last six games following the Brondby draw on Sunday. Hamza played full throttle while Musa Juwara came off the bench to replace Victor Lind in the 57th minute.

James Gomez made his debut in  Odense’s 1-1 draw against AARHUS.
AC Horsens drew 1-1 against Næstved in a game that Alagaie Saine saw 86 minutes of action. His 17th appearance of the season.
Slovakia
Alasana Yirajang replaced Masaryk in the 59th minute. FK Zeleziarne Podbrezová suffered a 2-1 defeat to Ružomberok in the Slovakian Liga on Saturday. FK Zeleziarne, who were missing several players, finished sixth with 34 points after Saturday’s result.
Kazakhstan
FC Atyrau opened the season with a goalless draw against Elimai FC, with Lamin Jarjou making his league debut.
Estonia
Ebrima Jarju opened the 2024 season with a clean sheet following Paide’s 3-0 win over Pärnu Vaprus. This is the former Real de Banjul skipper’s 23rd clean sheet in 56 matches for Paide.
Saudi Arabia
Mohammed Badamoesi and Al Hazem fought back to hold Al Nassr to an eight-goal thriller. Badamoesi played a crucial role in the fourth goal scored by Paulo Riccardo in extra time.
Match day 22 saw Musa Barrow scored and assist in an Al Taawoun 2-2 draw against Al Wehda.
Morroco
Momodou Bojang scored a header in Kawkab’s 2-1 win over Olympique Khouribga. The former Gambia U20 talisman has now scored a total of three goals in 11 matches. Yusupha Bobb was also involved, giving the Marrakech club one point in the promotion spot.
Rwanda
Modou Jobe kept a clean sheet in Musanze FC’s 1-0 win over Rwamagana City FC.
CAF Champions League
Lamin Jallow was on target in CR Belouizdad’s 3-0 home win against Medeama, as the Algerian finished third. Jallow, who scored a half volley, has joined Gibril Sillah and Kebba Sowe as Gambians scoring in the CAF Champions League and has the highest appearances (8) and highest goal scorer in the competition with two goals.
Pa Omar Jobe scored in a Simba SC 6-0 win over Galaxy to book a quarterfinal spot. The goal against Galaxy means P. Omar Jobe has scored in every competition now for Simba.
Esperance also booked their ticket for the quarterfinals, and Future FC booked their quarterfinal spot in the Confederation Cup, with both Kebba Sowe and Kajally Drammeh not involved in the Sunday game.

The Stockholm-based Journalist is a media officer, football Scout, PR, Influencer and Digital creator. I started my journalism career as a football analyst in 2012 with Vibes FM and went on to work with CityLimit, West Coast, Hot FM, Freedom Radio, Eye Africa and Afri Radio as a content producer and presenter.
