Opposition National Democratic Party (NDP) leader Kebba Madi Bojang has been arrested and detained by police, party officials confirmed on Friday.

Multiple sources within the NDP and Public Relations Officer Lamin Jallow told local media that Bojang was taken into custody on Thursday, June 25, 2026. He reportedly spent the night at the Anti-Crime Unit (ACU) in Banjulinding.

The arrest comes days after the party received over 16 pick-up vehicles, motorcycles, and campaign materials ahead of the December 5, 2026, presidential election. It follows a successful political rally in Jambur.

Jallow linked the detention to the earlier arrest of a Turkish associate of Bojang, who is accused of facilitating the procurement of the materials. Police have also halted the printing of NDP t-shirts and other campaign items.

“We are heading to the ACU to secure his release,” Jallow said. “Kebba is a law-abiding citizen. This is a politically motivated attempt to intimidate him and derail the NDP’s activities. We demand his immediate and unconditional release.”

The police have not yet issued an official statement on the reasons for the arrest.
