National Democratic Party (NDP) leader Kebba Madi Bojang has firmly denied reports that he was arrested or detained by police, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In an exclusive interview with The Alkamba Times (TAT), Bojang clarified that he voluntarily spent the night of Thursday, June 25, 2026, sleeping inside his car at the gate of the Anti-Crime Unit (ACU) in Banjulinding out of solidarity with his Turkish businessman friend, Muhammed Raine.
According to Bojang, Raine was invited to the Old Yundum Police Station for questioning regarding allegations of sponsoring the procurement of vehicles, motorbikes, and campaign materials for the NDP ahead of the December 5, 2026, presidential election. Police later escorted Raine to his residence, where a thorough search was conducted on suspicion of involvement in the production of counterfeit currency. Nothing incriminating was found.
“After the search, they took him back to Old Yundum and obtained his statement. To my surprise, they then moved him to the ACU. The gate men denied me entry, so I decided to sleep in my car at their gate,” Bojang explained.
He said he chose not to abandon his friend and only learned the following morning from Raine’s wife that the detention was allegedly linked to the NDP’s campaign assets. Bojang strongly denied that Raine had financed any of the party’s materials.
“It is totally false and misleading to assume that it is Muhammad Raine who bought these materials for the NDP. I can swear to the holy Quran that Muhammed did not buy a single vehicle, motorbike, or any campaign material for the NDP,” he stated.
Bojang described the development as part of a broader intimidation campaign aimed at weakening the opposition party following its successful rally in Jambur and recent procurement of campaign vehicles.
“First, they accused him of counterfeit production, found nothing, then shifted to campaign materials. This is all false. But I want to assure all Gambians that these intimidation tactics will not work. NDP is here to stay,” he declared.
As of Friday afternoon, there has been no official comment from the police or the Anti-Crime Unit on the matter. The NDP says it will continue its preparations for the upcoming presidential polls.
