Barely one day to the Presidential election, some NPP supporters in Wuli East are said to allegedly going round to raise over 3000 voters’ cards from communities in a last minute effort to secure votes for President Barrow in Saturday’s polls.
An image circulating on social media shows voter’s cards obtained from potential voters in Batunding village, accompanied by a WhatsApp audio.
The audio recording by famous NPP supporter – Nafa Jabbai of Sutukoba village in the Wuli East, says a Lady in Bantunding village Haja Mbaro Sanneh has pioneered the activity to get voters’ cards and was able to collect scores from the women’s group, men and youth of her village.
The news sparked allegations that the NPP party is buying votes from potential voters ahead of Saturday’s election in the Wuli East district of the Upper River Region.
However, the man behind the audio dismissed claims of his party’s involvement in such activities and described the allegation as totally false.
‘’This happened during the nomination time when potential voters were to nominate their candidates – the women’s leader, Haja Mbaro Sanneh gathered these cards from her people who were willing to nominate President Barrow for the presidential election and the cards have not gone anywhere but were only taken for that reason and returned back to their owners after filling of the forms.’’ Nafa clarifies.
‘’All information making rounds that we seized voters’ cards to force people to vote for Barrow are lies. I shared that audio two months ago as the campaign manager of NPP for Wuli East to call on natives of the district to nominate President Barrow like the Batunding people have done.’’ He stressed.
