The Minister of Youth and Sports Bakary Y. Badjie has promised that The Gambia Government will continue to spend more into Gambian sports and not only football as the Scorpions close in on securing a place in the round of 16 in the 33rd edition of Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
“When you look at the last five years, the government has spent a lot in sports, not only in football and that is something that will continue in the future. If you also look at our players you will know that it’s a team that has great motivation, which is something very important for sportsmen and women. It make life much easier for them and improve their performance which has reflected in their Afcon games”.
“We are closer to booking a place in the round of 16 in this competition and we will need more money for the players, fans and all the delegates here in Cameroon. That’s why, we are going to start working on that now. Mr. Badjie confirmed to Alkamba Times.
“When you look around you will agree that the future is very bright for Gambian sports especially football as we presented a very good and solid team in this competition and most of our players are in the top leagues, which is an added advantage for us despite being underdogs coming into the nations cup, he further said.
Mr Badjie said the whole nation is proud of the performance of the Scorpions, which is set to face Tunisia on Thursday January 20, in their final group F match.
