Touring Disaster hotspots and communities affected by devastating Flash floods that inundated the Capital and its suburbs in the Gambia, President Adama Barrow has announced plans to launch an $80 Million and $43 Million infrastructural scheme to tackle flooding in the Greater Banjul Area effectively.
President Barrow made this promise recently during a tour to flood-affected areas within the Greater Banjul Area.
Over the weekend, several households were severely affected by the heavy downpour, which rendered many people homeless and considerable goods and materials perished instantly.
Barrow called on Physical Planning Department to strengthen its belts for proper allocation and demarcation of lands to avert the re-occurrence of flooding.
Earlier, the vice-president visited some communities. But, according to president Barrow, the visit embarked upon by the vice-president wasn’t enough, thus the need for him (Barrow) to commiserate with the flood victims.
He explained that his Government has already submitted a proposal to the Indian Government through their Social Project to help address such disasters.
