In a glittering evening of recognition and inspiration, The Fatu Network (TFN) and Africell successfully hosted the 6th Edition of the Heroes Award, honoring exceptional individuals and institutions from across West Africa. The prestigious event brought together influential figures from The Gambia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Mali, and Guinea to celebrate their remarkable contributions to society.
Held in The Gambia, the ceremony has grown into one of the region’s most respected platforms for acknowledging dedication, innovation, leadership, and public service. Since its launch, the Heroes Award has evolved from a national initiative into a powerful regional celebration that spotlights unsung heroes and inspires the next generation of changemakers.
At the center of this success is Fatu Camara, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Fatu Network. Her vision has transformed the award into a symbol of West African excellence, extending its reach beyond Gambian borders. Year after year, the event continues to gain prominence, reinforced by the consistent support of Senegalese music legend Youssou Ndour, whose presence has significantly elevated the award’s regional profile and promoted cross-border unity.
The gathering has also drawn high-profile dignitaries, including the First Lady of Sierra Leone, cabinet ministers from the Gambia and Nigeria, and prominent Gambian philanthropist Zainab Demba Jammeh, further cementing its status as a premier platform for leaders, innovators, and visionaries.
During the 2025 edition, several outstanding winners were recognized across diverse categories. The Public Service Delivery Award went to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) for its unwavering commitment to healthcare provision and improving public health outcomes across the country.
In the business sector, Spice Hub clinched the Enterprise of the Year Award. Accepting the honor, founder Chef Bojang expressed heartfelt gratitude: “Thank you for believing and trusting in what we do. We will continue to do our best.”
The Education Excellence Award was presented to Marenah International School for its outstanding contribution to quality learning and academic achievement. School representatives proudly stated, “Marenah International School is a leading school in excellence and will continue to keep that momentum.”

The Agriculture Excellence Award honored the ROOTS Project for its impactful work in agricultural development and rural empowerment. In an emotional speech, representatives dedicated the award to women farmers, saying, “This is dedicated to our women gardeners.”
Dr. Jojo Ndour Tembedou received the Leadership and Impact in STEM Award for her inspiring efforts to encourage young people, especially women, in STEM. “I thank the people who nominated my parents and me. I dedicate this award to everyone who stood by me throughout this journey,” she said.
The Healthcare Excellence Award recognized Dr. Abba Hydara for his exceptional service in medical care delivery. Ecobank Gambia Limited earned the Financial Innovation Award for expanding access to modern banking solutions. The Inspector General of Police, Seedy Muctarr Touray, was honored with the Security Leadership Award for his steadfast commitment to national security.
The night’s highest honor, the Person of the Year Award, was bestowed upon Magistrate Isatou Jallow in recognition of her professional integrity and outstanding service to the justice sector.
Beyond the trophies and applause, the 6th Heroes Award served as a powerful testament to the resilience and determination thriving across West Africa. From educators and healthcare workers to entrepreneurs and public servants, the event highlighted stories of impact and hope.
