The National Food Security Processing & Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC) has refuted claims that Gambian farmers who delivered groundnuts to various seccos across the country have not been paid, asserting that the vast majority have received their payments promptly. The clarification comes amid concerns raised by some farmers about delayed payments, prompting the Corporation to take swift action to resolve outstanding cases.
In a press statement issued on May 24, 2025, NFSPMC addressed speculations surrounding unpaid groundnut deliveries, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring farmers are compensated fairly and on time. “In light of recent reports suggesting that farmers who delivered groundnuts to the seccos have not been paid, the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation wishes to clarify that the vast majority of farmers have received their payments promptly upon delivery,” the statement read.
The Corporation acknowledged that, following a final reconciliation, a few farmers reported not receiving their payments despite funds being disbursed to seccos through mobile money platforms. These isolated cases have led to payment delays, which NFSPMC stressed are not indicative of the overall payment process. To address these issues, a dedicated verification and payment team has been deployed to the Upper River Region (URR) and other affected areas to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
“A dedicated team is currently on the ground in the Upper River Region to address these specific cases. This verification and payment team will continue their work across all affected regions to ensure that every farmer who delivered groundnuts to their secco and is eligible for payment receives what is rightfully due to them,” the NFSPMC explained.
The Corporation reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, emphasizing its role in supporting the Gambia’s farming community. Groundnut farming is a critical livelihood for many in the country, and timely payments are essential for sustaining agricultural productivity and economic stability. NFSPMC expressed gratitude for farmers’ patience and cooperation as they worked to resolve the remaining payment issues.
“National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation remains committed to supporting farmers and maintaining transparency and accountability in all our operations. We thank the farming community for their patience and continued cooperation,” the release concluded.
The NFSPMC’s proactive response aims to restore confidence among farmers and ensure that all eligible individuals receive their dues. As the verification team continues its work, the Corporation has pledged to maintain open communication with farmers and stakeholders to prevent future delays. This effort underscores the NFSPMC’s dedication to supporting Gambia’s agricultural sector, a cornerstone of the nation’s economy while addressing challenges affecting its farmers’ livelihoods.
