The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has firmly rejected claims that it has endorsed President Adama Barrow or his National People’s Party (NPP), warning that it will pursue legal and disciplinary action against Mr. Kebba E. Jallow, the former embattled PPP interim leader, for allegedly misrepresenting the party’s position.
In a statement issued by Secretary General and Party Leader Hon. Ousman Madikay Faal, the PPP said a circulating video and pictures in which Jallow purports to back Barrow and the NPP have created a “false impression” that such support reflects the party’s official stance.
“Kebba E. Jallow does not hold any authority to speak on behalf of the People’s Progressive Party,” the statement declared. “The PPP categorically states that it has not endorsed President Adama Barrow or the National People’s Party (NPP). Any claim or suggestion to the contrary is false, misleading, and does not represent the official position of the Party.”
The party emphasized that it operates strictly under its constitution through established organs such as the National Congress, Central Committee and National Executive Committee. No individual, whether a current or former office holder, can unilaterally commit the PPP to any political decision without proper mandate, it said.
PPP leadership described Jallow’s actions as inconsistent with collective leadership, party discipline and institutional integrity. By suggesting the party had endorsed another political organization and its presidential candidate, the statement continued, Jallow had misled the public, sown confusion among members and supporters, and damaged the party’s reputation.
While acknowledging it had previously shown restraint in the interest of reconciliation and unity, the PPP stressed that this should not be interpreted as acceptance of conduct that undermines its constitutional authority.
“In light of the gravity of these actions, the Party will commence legal and disciplinary proceedings against Mr Kebba E. Jallow, and will seek all available legal remedies arising from the unauthorized misrepresentation of the Party’s official position,” the statement concluded. The PPP pledged to take all lawful measures necessary to protect its name, authority and institutional integrity.
The development adds to ongoing political tensions in the lead-up to the December Presidential elections as parties clarify alliances and internal discipline.
