Steve Biko’s Lamin Owens scored a brace against Waa Banjul at the KG5 mini stadium on Saturday, bringing his goal tally to nine goals in 10 matches.
Sillah has scored a brace against Bombada and Wallidan. Four of his goals came from the spot after he was brought down; he has three assists to his name also.
Sillah joined Mustapha Jallow of Fortune FC, who is second on the chart to reflect their goalscoring form so far.
” I target 10 goals in the first round; I haven’t got a target for the second round. This season will be massive for me.” Sillah stressed
“When Adama Bojang left, we were struggling a little bit, especially in the first three games. We later became focused and worked hard. The goals are coming, and the performances are good. We want to push for the league. I felt someone had to step up, and I felt I was the right one to do it. My performance was lacking, but it’s coming up now, game by game.”
Biko currently sits fifth on the league table. Coach Adnan was full of praise for his striker.
“Lamin is a good striker and very clinical. We build the team around the two strikers; if you work hard, you will bang goals. Every week, we work with strikers on how to finish. We defend and leave two strikers upfront; previously, we had Adama Bojang and Modou Lamin Marong, and this time we are having Lamin Owens and Ismaila Manneh, so the whole team will play for those two.” Adnan noted
“If you are clinical, ready to learn, and work hard, you will be banging in goals for Steve Biko because of the system you play.”
Jallow is not bothered by the stiff competition in the golden shoe race as he has shrugged off pressure.
“That’s how it should be. We keep pushing each other, and that makes us want to score more goals and get better every game, but for me, my main priority is the team first. When the team is winning, everything will be easy for me as well.”
“So, it’s all about collective responsibility” he added.
Pressure: No, I don’t think I have pressure when I’m not scoring as a striker.
It’s my job to score; that’s why I’m a striker. I have no pressure; all I do is challenge myself game after game.
My target is to help my team win the league and the golden boot for myself as well. I’ll do all I can to help the team in any way I can as a striker.
