Rebellion The Recaller, one of the Gambia’s finest Reggae legends has won The Best African Musician/Band In the Germany Award 2021 at The AFRONEWS – Ortel Mobile African Community in Germany Awards Gala Night in Frankfurt on Saturday.

He  was  nominated alongside two African artists in Germany namely The Ngoma Africa Band from Kenya and Peter Jesty known as Jesty B.

Gambia’s reggae icon  was represented at the Awards Gala Night by his manager Buba Gassama. Here’s how Rebellion The Recaller rejoiced when he learnt that he had won the The Best African Musician/Band In Germany Award 2021:

Rebellion the Recaller is an internationally renown Reggae artist from The Gambia.

He mainly uses his music to campaign against racism and religious discrimination and promote understanding between people from different backgrounds.

The Recaller wants a better future for all that dwell on Earth and this has earned him the title of “The INSPIRED ONE”.

In 1990 he released his first hit WE MUST REBEL as a collaboration with Suns Of Light” (THE BOYZ US RNB Sensation in the 90s).

The single hit Top 10 charts in The Gambia and Senegal for months and became the best ever selling single record by a Gambian Artist.

Rebellion the Recaller was born in France to Gambian parents. He moved to live in The Gambia when he was 11 years old and while there, he joined the famous Reggae group, World of Inspired Ones before starting his solo career.

He also released “One For One” in 1997 which became an instant hit and one of the most popular Reggae Jams in The Gambia.

Rebellion the Recaller released his debut album titled “Departing From These Days” in 1999. In the same year he was named The Best Solo Artist in The Gambia.

After moving to Germany in 2003, Rebellion released a single titled “We must Rebel”.

In 2008 he released an album co-produced by Bobby Digital. The artist also appeared as a guest singer on records by D-Flame, Dodo, Phenomden, Mono & Nikitaman and Gentleman.

He has toured Africa, Europe and America extensively to spread positive Reggae vibrations across the world alongside multiple colloborations with artistes across the globe. The Recaller now lives in Berlin.

Sainey M.K. Marenah
Mr. Sainey M.K. Marenah is a prominent Gambian journalist and the founding editor of The Alkamba Times. He previously held the position of Head of Communications at the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) and served as a Communications and PR Consultant for The Gambia Pilot Program under Gamworks. Additionally, Mr. Marenah was the social media strategist and editor at Gambia Radio and Television Services and served as the Banjul Correspondent for Voice of America Radio. With a focus on human rights and developmental journalism, Mr. Marenah has established a significant presence in the Gambian media landscape, particularly in new media environments. His career began in 2008 as a junior reporter at The Point Newspaper, where he advanced to become Chief Correspondent. He later joined The Standard Newspaper in Banjul as Editorial Assistant and Head of News. Mr. Marenah is known for covering some of the most critical stories during the former and current administrations, including high-profile treason cases involving former military chiefs from 2009 to 2012. After his arrest and imprisonment by the previous regime of President Yahya Jammeh in 2014, he relocated to Dakar, Senegal, where he continues to work as a freelance journalist for various local and international media organizations, including the BBC, Al Jazeera, VOA, and ZDF TV in Germany. He is also a co-founder of the Banjul-based Media Center for Research and Development, an institution dedicated to research and development initiatives. As a journalist and communication expert dedicated to supporting the Gambia's transitional process, Mr. Sainey M.K. Marenah plays a significant role in developing a media and communications platform aimed at enhancing civic participation and raising awareness of the requirements for transitional governance. His efforts contribute to the country's ongoing movement toward democratization. In addition to his work in Gambia, Mr. Marenah has traveled extensively across Europe, Africa, and the United States as a professional journalist and has participated in various local and international media training programs. He is currently based in the United States.
