In a bold departure from the country’s traditional personality-driven politics, the newly formed movement Believe for National Transformation (BNT) on Saturday launched a nationwide call for young leaders to form a regional representative governance council.

The announcement came during an event at Bijilo Nursery School, where BNT outlined its vision for a youth-led, collective leadership model that prioritizes transparent institutions over individual “strongman” rule.

BNT, positioning itself as a fresh force ahead of future elections, rejects centralized power in favor of robust systems grounded in rules, integrity, and merit. The movement’s blueprint is detailed in a concise 5-page summary drawing inspiration from three foundational texts: Why Change is Inevitable, The National Identities, and The Model.

“We stand for strong systems over strong men,” a BNT statement emphasized. “We will build institutions that function based on rules, not personalities.”

The National Call for Participation invites Gambians—especially the youth—to apply for positions on the governing council. Selection criteria focus on integrity, competency, and genuine community ties. An independent committee will oversee a transparent, merit-based process to ensure fairness.

BNT’s broader agenda includes evidence-based governance, youth empowerment, economic transformation, and decentralization to foster greater citizen participation. The movement envisions a Gambia where every citizen lives with dignity and respect, and participates meaningfully in national decision-making.

Executive member Modou Mbaye addressed the gathering, declaring, “Change is inevitable. The only question is whether we will shape it or be shaped by it.”

BNT is urging all Gambians, particularly young people, to step forward and help reshape the nation’s future. The open call for participation marks an ambitious effort to cultivate a new generation of leaders committed to systemic reform rather than personal dominance.

As The Gambia continues its post-transition journey toward stronger democratic institutions, BNT’s initiative signals growing momentum for innovative, inclusive approaches to governance.
