The third edition of the Ballers4Life (B4L) Youth League is set to kick off tomorrow, Sunday, August 16, with defending champions SEEDS Academy beginning their title defence against Rainbow FA at the Rainbow Manduar Mini Stadium.
The opening fixture, scheduled for 4:00 PM, will officially usher in what promises to be of the biggest and most competitive edition of the B4L Youth League to date.
Founded in 2023, Ballers4Life has steadily established itself as one of The Gambia’s leading grassroots football platforms, creating structured opportunities for young players and academies to compete, develop, and gain exposure. The league has grown from its inaugural U15 competition into a broader youth development platform, with scouting and international pathways becoming a key part of its identity.
32 Teams, Four Groups
Season 3 will feature 32 teams, marking another major expansion of the competition. The teams will be divided into four groups of eight, with the best-performing sides from each group progressing to the Round of 16.
This year’s edition welcomes several notable debutants, including BST Galaxy, Real de Banjul U17, and Gambian Dutch Lions U17, alongside a number of emerging grassroots academies that have earned their place in the competition.
Their inclusion highlights the league’s growing reach across Gambian football, bringing together elite youth structures, first-division development teams, and community-based academies on one competitive platform.
Defending champions SEEDS Academy headline the competition as they aim to retain their crown, while Rainbow FA return for their second appearance, setting up an exciting opening clash.
“The Growth Has Been Remarkable” — Lamin Dr Bojang
One of the league’s managers, Lamin Dr Bojang, described the progress of the competition over the past three years as a clear sign of its growing impact on youth football development.
“The success of the B4L Youth League over the last three years has been remarkable. We have seen the league grow not only in the number of teams but also in the quality of players, coaches, and academies involved.
What makes us particularly proud is the number of opportunities that have come out of this platform. There are many talented young players in The Gambia who may not have the opportunity to showcase themselves on big stages. B4L is creating that platform for them.
Our objective is to continue building a league where talent can be seen, developed, and connected to opportunities beyond the grassroots.”
According to B4L, seven players have already been scouted to European clubs, with some signing professional contracts and others securing pre-contract agreements pending eligibility upon turning 18.
BST Galaxy: A Pathway for First Division Youth
For debutants BST Galaxy, participation in the league represents a vital development opportunity.
Speaking to SPORTSGM, Amadou LS Jaiteh, Secretary of BST Galaxy, highlighted the importance of the competition in bridging youth and senior football.
“The B4L Youth League is a very important opportunity for us. It gives youth categories of First Division clubs the chance to compete in a well-organised competition against other academies.
For clubs like BST Galaxy, this helps prepare a ready-made talent pool for the senior team. The players gain competitive experience, exposure, and development. B4L provides that environment.
We are delighted to make our debut and believe this competition will significantly contribute to the growth of our young players.”
Kaborong Talents: “They Have Decentralised Football”
Another debutant, Kaborong Talents of Mandinaring, also expressed strong belief in the league’s impact on grassroots football.
Founder Modou Lamin Touray, popularly known as Coach Sarr, praised B4L for creating opportunities for smaller academies.
“B4L is the right place for the growth of young academies. They have really decentralised football at the grassroots level. They have provided platforms for unknown academies to excel and created opportunities for players to be scouted directly from the grassroots.
This is empowering local neighbourhood academies because you don’t have to be a big-name academy to be seen.
We are honoured to take part in this edition and look forward to showcasing the talents of our boys.”
Impacting The Community
Beyond competition, B4L has evolved into a broader youth development platform, combining football with education, mentorship, and social impact initiatives. One of its standout programmes, Goals4Trees, links goals scored in the league to tree planting across The Gambia, with over 10,000 trees planted to date.
The league has also attracted scouts, agents, and international football stakeholders, reinforcing its role as a genuine pathway from grassroots football to professional opportunities.
