Prominent opposition figure Bakary Camara, widely known as the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) media warrior and founder of the Camaraba Official platform, has announced his resignation from the party.

In a detailed statement, Camara said circumstances forced him to leave for a new beginning after years of dedicated service. He traced his political roots to 1996, when his late uncle, Famara Camara (known as Fams), introduced him to the then-emerging UDP at their family home in Tallinding while he was still in high school.

Camara built a passion for politics and used social media to promote the party’s image and agenda both within The Gambia and abroad. He founded Camaraba Official, which he said has become a household name, while mentoring others who later advanced on their own.

He described a close relationship with UDP leader Alhaji Ousainou ANM Darboe, calling him a father figure who welcomed him with open arms. Camara expressed lasting respect for Darboe and confidence that the leader’s commitment to democracy would allow him to accept the decision in good faith.

He thanked supporters, asked for forgiveness for any unintended wrongs, and prayed for God’s blessings on The Gambia.
