Known for his nimble feet and magical display coupled with clinical finishes, young Gambian sensation Dembo Darbo has won the Golden Boot award in the Belarusian Premiership.

The forward scored 19 goals in 29 league matches and made 12 assists in the process for his Shakhtyor Soligorsk side.

The achievement means Darbo is only the third Gambian in history to win a golden boot in Europe after Ali Sowe clinched the award in 2018 and Pa Omar Jobe in 2019.

The tricky, 23-year-old Brikama born forward surpassed records set by Shakhtar’s Dmitry and Nikolay in the 2012 Belarusian league and 2015 respectively.

His 19 goals tie him with previous winners of the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

The Gambian International who achieved a remarkable season was named five times as MVP player and six times as man of the match during the season.

The former Real de Banjul player has also been named as the fans favourite player and the Belarusian players and coaches best player of the season.

It is a great boost for a player who has become a familiar face in the Gambia’s squad preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations next month.
