Dibba Oil FC striker Alieu Jammeh has been handed a last-minute call-up to the U23 team.
The Brikama Nyambai-born forward joins the team to strengthen the attack as they seek to scale the qualifying hurdle against Bombada United.
Already on the wanted list of Hawks, Wallidan, Real De Banjul, and Brikama Utd, Jammeh has also attracted the attention of some foreign clubs.
The right-footed striker scored 21 goals and provided 12 assists last season.Alieu is versatile as he can attack from the wings and loves cutting from the left side.
He has also been deployed as a number 10 and on the flanks in midfield several times. Jammeh scored two Hat-tricks against Wagadugu and Latrikunda Utd. He has registered 2 penalties and also scored five with his head.
“I never thought I would be the leading goal scorer though I scored in every two other games. Our target was to stay in the league because it was a young, new team,” Jammeh told Alkamba Times Sports.
“After ending the first round with 12 goals, I told myself I could compete for the leading goalscorer. I am thrilled and excited about our position. It’s a big achievement. We have already achieved our goal. Anything on top of that is a bonus.” He added
The former Jaliba Utd prolific striker had his first training with the U23 and says his late call-up was just a matter of time.
“You drop the best out of the best; it wasn’t discouraging on my side. It was encouraging to me as maybe they haven’t seen some potential in them”.
Dibba Oil FC will face Bombada Utd in the playoffs, and Alieu relishes the prospect of playing in the top tier.
“Second division is hard, many games are piled, and teams are very competitive. We are going all out to see that we are promoted.”
