Defending champions of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) League Division One, Hawks FC registered their first victory of the new league season following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Gamtel Football Club at the KG5 mini-stadium in Banjul.
Gamtel took the lead 4 minutes into the start of the game through attacking midfielder Muhammed Kone who flipped Julius Jatta’s well-taken cross and beat the Hawks goalkeeper in his near post to put his side ahead.
The return to the second half sees Hawks dominate most parts of the game — turning their opponent’s defense into attack — creating a couple of goal chances.
Star player Abdou Jatta capitalizes and strikes twice in the 58th and 63rd minutes to ensure a comeback for his team as they bagged their first important three points of the new league campaign.
Reacting to the win, the Head Coach of Hawks FC, Alieu Jane, did not rule out the intensity of the game from both side. However, he expressed delight in having the outcome in his favor as they secured their first win of the season.
The 2021/22 GFF League Division One champions, Hawks, scored a goal for the first time this season after four (4) matches thanks to the 2-1 win against Gamtel FC.
