A driver at the Banjul International Airport, Modou Bojang, has denied any involvement in a drug trafficking case, telling the High Court in Banjul that he unknowingly transported four women who were later arrested with drugs. The case, presided over by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, continued on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

State Counsels M. Singhateh and S. Sarr represented the prosecution, while defence counsels Lamin J. Darbo, Fa Kebba Darbo, Fatoumatta Bonda, and A. Jurju appeared for the accused persons.

Testifying as the fourth defence witness, Bojang narrated that on June 29, 2024, while on his night shift, a colleague — security officer Yahya Jatta — asked him to transport four female passengers to an aircraft.

“Yahya told me he had four ladies he wanted me to onboard,” Bojang said. “I drove them to the aircraft, opened the door, and left. I didn’t speak to them or know who they were.”

Later that morning, he said, Drug Squad officer Pa Modou summoned him and informed him that the same woman had been arrested. “I was shocked because I thought they had boarded their flight,” he said. “The Director later confirmed they were caught with drugs.”

Bojang testified that Yahya admitted instructing him to drive the women, and that he was detained overnight and released on bail the following Thursday. He also alleged that an officer later asked him to thumbprint a statement he had not written or read.

During cross-examination, Bojang confirmed he had been an airport driver since 2018 and used a VIP van for transport, claiming he was acting on orders. Counsel Singhateh accused him of lying about authorization, but Bojang denied it, insisting, “I only act on instructions.”

He maintained his innocence, saying he had no knowledge of the women’s alleged drug activities and was merely performing his duties.

The case, linked to a wider drug trafficking investigation involving four women arrested in June 2024, was adjourned to November 5, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
