The Gambia Home Economics Teachers’ Association (GHETA) joins the global community in commemorating Home Economics Day on 21st March 2026 under the theme: “You are what you eat – Feeding the Future.” This theme underscores the need for critical reflection on dietary choices, particularly in an era of advancing food production where quality and safety may be compromised.

At the national level, GHETA adopts the theme: “Practice healthy eating habits to promote safe and nutritious food in homes and communities.” Home Economics educators remain key stakeholders in promoting nutrition, food safety, consumer awareness, and effective home management, thereby contributing to national health and well-being.

The Association emphasizes the importance of proper food handling, preparation, and kitchen hygiene, recognizing their direct impact on public health, especially among vulnerable groups such as infants and the elderly.

GHETA therefore calls on the general public and relevant stakeholders to support and promote healthy eating practices, make informed dietary choices, and collaborate in safeguarding the nation’s future through improved nutrition and food safety.
