The government is set to break its silence over the ongoing scandal rocking the country’s premier oil firm Gampetroleum with a press conference that bring together the Ministry of Information, Energy and Trade to brief the press about raging saga, which earned traction during a week of gas and fuel shortages in the Gambia.

The Petroleum Scandal has already led to some arrests with the company’s Top executive Saihou Drammeh and Lamin Gassama, director of operations at Gampetroleum in detention alongside one Khadija Kebbeh of the Gach holdings,  the Alkamba Times gathers.

The press conference scheduled to take place at the Petroleum House in the Turntable area shortly after police in Banjul confirmed the detention of the managing director of Gampetrolum, Saihou Drammeh on Friday.

“Yes, we can confirm his arrest in connection with transactions relating to petroleum products under his purview, ”Police Spokesperson ASP Lamin Njie said, without specifying any charges to Alkamba Times last week.

On Monday, TAT ran another story linking the government and Businessman Abukar Jawara of Gach global to the melee of events trumping supposedly short Petroleum supplies as the nation reeled from the uncertainty of unannounced scarcity.

One source told TAT that the cause of the last weeks shortage is perhaps the workings of a bad business day as suppliers reneged on stocks after Gampetroleum failed to pay them.

Well, we will know more in the coming days but the hiccup of a shortage that faced the oil sector comes at its worst with an increase in city transport fares digging deeper into commuters pockets.
