Scorpions midfielder Abdoulie Jallow’s thunderous strike in the 10th minute of the game was enough for the Gambia to collect their first victory in their AFCON debut against Mauritania in Cameroon.
Jallow, the play maker said it was the best moment for him as a player to score the country’s first nations cup goal.
“This is a great moment for me and the entire team as we are lucky to be part of this historic moment, we are happy to give our country her first victory in our debut game in the Africa Cup of Nations and I believe with this kind of performance we can a3chive a lot together. The mood in camp is very positive, we are fighting together to make sure that we get victory in every game we play” Jallow added.
The Gambia entered the AFCON qualifiers back in 1952 but Abdoulie Jallow’s name will go down in the history of Gambian Football as the first player to score for the Gambia in the continental showpiece.
The Gambia will face Mali in their second game of the tournament on Sunday January 16, 2022 at the Omnisports de Limbe in Cameroon.
